Patrick Stewart is 100% responsible for the Rangers shambles that was Russell Martin

The appointment of Russell Martin as Rangers Manager will absolutely go down as one of the most dreadful mistakes any Rangers board has ever made. One look at the man’s CV was enough to tell even the blindest moron that this was not a calibre man for Rangers FC. Yet forge ahead with the ridiculous appointment they nevertheless did. Ibrox Noise was the only Rangers group or page or organisation to 100% oppose Russell Martin and more importantly stick by it. We were the only group who kept on sticking to our guns that this was the wrong appointment and we would not support Russell Martin.
As many Rangers fans will know, the majority did not agree with the appointment but fell in line along with the ‘he’s here now, let’s just back him’. Ibrox Noise refused to do that. We knew it was a dire appointment, it was a terrible appointment and it was going to ruin the club. And it did. Patrick Stewart has a lot to answer for. He has destroyed Rangers’ season by appointing this guy and by taking too long to realise he’d made a mistake. It is on Rangers’ CEO, pure and simply. He is deeply accountable for this terrible error.
Kevin Thelwell did not appoint Russell Martin. He was consulted and he endorsed Stewart’s choice but he didn’t make the choice. It falls on Stewart, just like Pedro Caixinha fell on Stewart Robertson. Rangers CEOs or Managing Directors as they were then really have been responsible for some absolutely appalling decisions at this club, so poorly managed. Even the appointment that worked out the best in many ways, Steven Gerrard, itself took three or four years. And that, in that case, wasn’t even made by the Managing Director. It had nothing to do with any CEO. That was scouting by former Sporting Director Mark Allen. Hho then advised then Chairman Dave King of this fun idea he had had. It worked out eventually but it still wasn’t anyone particularly on the board in an executive position who made the call.
Instead, all the bad calls have been made by diabolical CEOs like Stewart. He has finally done the right thing and relieved Russell Martin of his duties. But he is most certainly responsible for this. He’s another Rangers Chief who seem to have no clue about what it takes to manage or run our club. Michael Beale, Philippe Clement and a whole bunch of others, regardless of any arguments made for or against these individuals, simply didn’t work out. Whether they were badly supported or they had made the mistakes themselves on the pitch doesn’t really matter. These just didn’t work out and in almost all cases were the result of terrible management and managerial search processes.
So Stewart has now done belatedly the right thing. The season is probably gone already but Rangers sit in the bottom half of the table without a clue as to where to go next. Thankfully Martin is now gone. We can at least sleep easy on that one. But finding the right man is going to be another battle of laughs. All we will say is Patrick Stewart should be holding his head in shame for the absolute mess that he has made. He has no accountability apart from the owners. But this appointment was only made with their approval rather than their outright support and active participation.
It’s on him. He has been a shambles and he is unfit for purpose. We highly doubt though that he is going to pay for it with his job. But then we thought Russell Martin as Rangers Manager might actually be untouchable as well. That one didn’t turn out that way either.
