Patrick Vieira could replace Pape Thiaw as the manager of the Senegal national team, according to a report from L’Équipe.

The publication understands that there will be a debrief of Senegal’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign on Saturday. The African nation, who beat Morocco in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, went out at the Round of 32. That was despite leading Belgium 2-0 going into the final stages of the game. A quickfire brace from the Red Devils and a Youri Tielemans winner deep into injury time dumped Thiaw’s side out of the competition.

As a result of this perceived failure, Thiaw’s position as the national team manager is under threat. His future could be decided today. Some members of the federation want to bring in Vieira, according to L’Équipe.

The France international was born in the Senegalese capital of Dakar, has invested in one of the nation’s biggest training centres (Diambars) and is not attached to a club currently, following his exit from Genoa back in November.
