"If nothing strange happens, I will complete the two years I have left on my contract and that will be the end of my time at Aston Villa."
He was speaking to La Otra Grada.
"What I would like is for Villarreal not to have to pay anything for me, to arrive as a free agent. It is the club of my life and I do not want them spending money to bring me back."
"If, when that moment comes, the coach at the club thinks I can provide what is needed, I would be delighted to return. It is something I have in mind and I have spoken about it with the president."
A Vila-real native and Villarreal academy graduate, Pau Francisco Torres debuted for the first team and helped win the 2021 Europa League, the club’s first trophy.
In summer 2023, Aston Villa, led by Unai Emery, convinced him to move to Birmingham in a deal worth around 33 million euros to Villarreal.
Since then he has become an important part of Villa’s defence, reached the Champions League quarter-finals and added another Europa League to his honours.
He was named in Luis de la Fuente’s 55-man provisional World Cup list, though he did not make the final squad. Vila-real’s municipal sports complex also carries his name, CEM Pau Francisco Torres.
