Liverpool lead the way in the Premier League, sitting six points above second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand. The Reds have also qualified automatically for the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League after finishing atop the table.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has done a remarkable job at Anfield. The Dutchman could become only the fifth manager to win the Premier League in his debut season after Jose Mourinho, Manuel Pellegrini, Antonio Conte, and Carlo Ancelotti.

However, despite their incredible season, much of the talk around Liverpool has been about the contract situation of captain Virgil Van Dijk, talisman Mohamed Salah, and wunderkind Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The trio have all entered the final year of their contracts with the Merseyside club, and fans want to see them sign on the dotted line.

Unfortunately, sporting director Richard Hughes and CEO of football Michael Edwards have not been able to get the players to budge. All three reportedly have offers from Liverpool, but none has picked up the pen.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes all three will be gone at the end of the season. Even though he admitted to a bit of cynicism in his comments, he argued that none of the trio would sign a new Liverpool deal.

“Call me a cynic, but I don’t think any of them sign,” Merson said (via Sky Sports).”I think they wait and see. If you win the league, I don’t know where Liverpool go from there.”

Merson believes all three will feel accomplished at the club and might be angling for a move away, depending on their success in the Premier League and Champions League.

If Merson’s prediction proves accurate, Liverpool could face a daunting summer rebuild, even on the back of a potentially historic season. Losing Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold in one window would be an unprecedented blow, forcing the club to rethink its long-term strategy under Slot.

However, Liverpool fans hope that silverware and a strong vision for the future can convince the trio to stay. With the Premier League title in sight and Champions League glory still a possibility, the coming months could define this season and the next era at Anfield.
