According to Foot Mercato, Paul Mitchell has chosen Thiago Scuro, the Executive Director of Brazilian Red Bull club Bragantino, to succeed him as Sporting Director of AS Monaco.
Mitchell confirmed in March that he will leave Monaco in the near future. However, the Englishman, who arrived at the club in 2020, won’t do so until he has found his successor. L’Équipe had linked Stade Rennais Technical Director Florian Maurice with the role, although, according to the French publication, he turned down the role.
RMC Sport reported that Carlos Aviña, who is currently Sporting Director at partner club Cercle Brugge, was also in the running to replace Mitchell, who as revealed by sources contacted by Get French Football News, has held talks with Liverpool.
Foot Mercato have revealed that Mitchell has elected someone with whom he has already worked, but it’s not Aviña. Mitchell worked with Scuro whilst he was in the Red Bull system, with the pair collaborating closely during the 2019/20 season. Since arriving at the club back in 2013, he has taken the club from the third division in Brazil to the Copa Libertadores in 2021.
