Paul Pogba is unlikely to continue at Monaco, one year after his emotional arrival, with the club now moving towards an exit this summer.

According to Nice-Matin, Monaco informed the 33-year-old nearly three weeks ago that they did not intend to continue together and aim to find a solution before the transfer window closes, with a year left on his contract.

An injury sustained on Tuesday at St George's Park did not alter that stance, it only reinforced thinking after a campaign that yielded 115 minutes.

A year ago Pogba signed for Monaco in tears, returning to football seven months after terminating his Juventus contract, having been sidelined by a long doping suspension and fitness problems.

At the club's season-opening press conference, chief executive Thiago Scuro said the project with Pogba had not worked last season, that expectations had been very different, and that a departure was possible.

A final decision was due by late August in the hope pre-season might change matters. But after only 45 minutes against Saint-Priest in the 5-2 on 18 July and no further friendlies, the verdict now appears imminent, and the gamble seems to have misfired for all involved.
