Paul Pogba is one player all eyes are on this summer, as he is finally expected to join a new club and return to action.
Since 3 September 2023, when he tested positive for a banned substance, Pogba has been unable to play football.
He subsequently served an 18-month doping ban, during which he and Juventus mutually agreed to terminate his contract in November.
With the suspension officially over in March, attention has turned to what comes next for Pogba.
On social media, he has hinted at maintaining his fitness by sharing glimpses of his workouts and training routine.
The World Cup winner is eager to return to the pitch—but where will that be?
A return to Old Trafford is not on the cards. In fact, no Premier League club is currently pushing hard for his signature.
While recent reports have linked Ligue 1 side Monaco with his signature, nothing concrete has materialised from those rumours so far.
Although Pogba, United’s €105 million (£89.5 million) record signing, is not thought to be opposed to a move to Monaco, he is reportedly still considering his options.
According to Foot Mercato, it is this uncertainty that has encouraged Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad to pursue Pogba in hopes of reuniting him with N’Golo Kanté and Karim Benzema.
Talks between Al Ittihad and the 32-year-old’s camp are ongoing, although there are several minor complications.
While both parties are optimistic about resolving contract terms and image rights (factors that have held up the deal), progress is unlikely until the Saudi club addresses their leadership situation.
This uncertainty could hand Monaco an edge in the race for Pogba, which is why his situation remains one to watch.
What is certain is that Pogba will find a new club this summer, and with a long-term goal of making the 2026 France World Cup squad, he will be determined to hit the ground running.
