Paul Pogba Nears Monaco Debut After Two-Year Absence
The long wait for Paul Pogba’s first appearance with AS Monaco may soon be over.
After more than two years away from competitive football, the French midfielder is edging closer to comeback according to head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.
Speaking on Tuesday ahead of Monaco’s Ligue 1 fixture against Nantes, the Belgian manager provided positive update on Pogba’s physical condition revealing that the 32 year old is closer than ever to returning following carefully managed rehabilitation program.
Pogba joined Monaco last June in move that generated major attention after turbulent period filled with injuries and doping related suspension.
Club CEO Tiago Scurro previously confirmed three month reintegration plan aimed at restoring the player’s full fitness initially targeting October debut.
"He has been out longer than Denis Zakaria, but at the moment Paul is progressing well. He’s training with intensity and will soon be ready for matchday inclusion" Pocognoli said.
The manager added that the coaching staff handling the midfielder with extreme caution to avoid setbacks noting that Pogba will likely play friendly minutes before rejoining official competition.
Pocognoli urged supporters to judge Pogba based on his current form not on his past glories with Man United or Juventus:
"Players evolve with time and experience. We need to see what Paul can offer at this stage of his career" the coach explained.
