After an 18-month suspension on doping charges, Paul Pogba (31) can officially play again as of Tuesday, but who he may join remains a big mystery.
It seems that the World Cup winner with France in 2018 has his share of options. His ambitions are a big question mark at the moment.
Olympique de Marseille are among the big French clubs linked to the former Juventus and Manchester United midfielder. Pogba has never made a senior appearance in France, previously featuring at the youth levels for Le Havre AC, Torcy and Roissy-en-Brie. A move to Major League Soccer or even Japan are possibilities as well.
A four-time Serie A champion with Juve, Pogba seems to want to play for a club where he might get the attention of French boss Didier Deschamps ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In October, Pogba told L’Équipe, “I must deserve my place,” referring to a return to the national team. He missed the 2022 World Cup for Les Bleus through injury.
While Europe seems quite possible, the fact that N’Golo Kanté (33) made the Euro 2024 squad suggests it isn’t a must to play there and get Deschamps’ attention.
MLS clubs are allowed to recruit players until April 23. The Japanese league meanwhile, is allowed to sign players until March 26 and Pogba left a strong impression when he visited the country in 2019, playing football with sumo wrestlers.
