Milan boss Paulo Fonseca blasted his team’s finish despite a landslide 3-0 victory against Empoli at Stadio San Siro. The Rossoneri returned to the win column in Serie A after consecutive draws against Juventus and Cagliari but still trail the last European qualification spot by three points.
“I was very angry with the referee, but I want to move on. We played a beautiful game, both offensively and defensively,” the Milan boss said, as reported by Calciomercato. “Chukwueze came on and contributed well, showing great sacrifice for the team. We scored three goals but could have easily netted six or seven, and we need to improve in that area.
“Overall, I am very pleased with the team. Today we created a lot of chances. It was a different game against a team that defended in a unique way. Not just Leao, but also Emerson, Musah, and others showed the mobility needed to break down teams like this,” the Milan head coach continued.
Conceding cheap goals has been a running theme for Milan this season. However, Fonseca’s charges have kept back-to-back clean sheets in Serie A, warranting the manager’s praise.
“We were solid at all times; we didn’t just attack well but also maintained our defensive security,” Fonseca added. “Even against Juventus, we were never in danger, which is essential for better attacking opportunities.“
With renewed optimism after scoring precisely three goals in their last two outings, Milan will meet high-flying Atalanta in their next Serie A fixture.
