Paulo Henrique missed Vasco da Gama’s 1-1 draw with Chapecoense on Thursday 5, his fourth game out, as he treats a chronic foot issue. According to PaponaColina, his representatives have fielded enquiries from clubs in Brazil and overseas for the defender who made the Brazil squad last season.

Despite the attention, Vasco’s stance is firm. The board were not swayed by proposals deemed below his level and do not intend to negotiate, preferring to shield him while he focuses on recovery.

His lay-off is purely medical. He had been playing through pain early in 2026, relying on injections and medication. Staff and the health and performance department, DESP, agreed to halt his run for conservative treatment.

The plan aims to avoid surgery and to restore full mobility and his trademark explosiveness. No return date has been set, and caution remains the priority at São Januário.

In his absence, Puma Rodríguez has seized his chance. He impressed against Chapecoense, solid at the back and on hand to score Vasco’s only goal.

His form creates a welcome dilemma for Fernando Diniz. With Paulo Henrique’s fitness uncertain, competition at right-back has intensified, easing the pressure on his recovery.
