Vasco da Gama president Pedrinho has explained why a new main shirt sponsor is yet to be confirmed, insisting the club will defend the value of its shirt while avoiding intransigence.
The shirt has been without a primary brand since the previous partner’s exit as the board seeks a deal that matches the club’s stature.
“Our shirt has always been very heavy, we have restored huge credibility in the market,” Pedrinho said, speaking to Podcast Cruzmaltino.
He described a tough negotiation with interested companies, aiming not to accept the first offer and to push until the price reflects what he considers fair. He added that he would not be stubborn and would close if the ceiling is reached.
The market picture has shifted. Bet365 had been seen as a frontrunner, but is said to have no interest in entering football shirt sponsorship at present, cooling hopes of an immediate global agreement with the betting firm.
A car manufacturer remains in the frame, as do approaches from financial institutions. Vasco are keeping options open, prioritising the best proposal and aware that timing is critical before the start of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
