Despite a breakthrough season in 2019, Pedrinho is facing an uncertain future at Corinthians.

Since making his senior debut in 2017, the 21-year-old playmaker had struggled to nail down a starting place despite huge expectations for him to shine for the Timão.

His importance to the team was highlighted by the fact they only won one game in which he wasn’t involved.

The consistency of Pedrinho was not mirrored in the club’s off-field activities. Manager Fábio Carille was sacked in November and replaced on an interim basis by Dyego Coelho.

Tiago Nunes has since been given the permanent job, but Pedrinho’s international commitments mean he will have to wait to prove his worth to the new boss.

According to Gazeta Esportiva.com, Olympic qualifying games will prevent Pedrinho from participating in Corinthians’ pre-season.

His time away with Brazil will also see him miss the first five games of the Paulista Championship and the Timão’s opening game in the Copa Libertadores.

As if all that wasn’t worrying enough, Nunes has brought in Luan from Grêmio to be his midfield general.

It seems like Pedrinho will find himself back at square one when he returns to the Corinthians fold. His task, then, will be to replicate his form of 2019 and prove the doubters wrong all over again.
