Pedrinho has hit back at Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, over his criticism of Vasco’s prospective sale to Marcos Lamacchia. He questioned whether Bap’s interventions are a smokescreen, after the Flamengo chief warned he would go to court if the deal is completed.
Vasco are in talks for the club to be sold and run by the entrepreneur, who is the son of the Crefisa owner and step-son of Palmeiras president Leila Pereira, a mix that has sparked conflict-of-interest claims.
Pedrinho said Pereira has no involvement in the negotiations and challenged Bap’s stance. “O Vasco não conduz nada fora da lei.” “Ninguém pediu a opinião do Bap”, he told O Globo.
Bap argued the law treats a step-child as family and said there should not be overlapping interests between clubs. “Não pode estar com o pé em duas canoas, é contra a lei”, he said on Charla Podcast.
Talks between Vasco and Lamacchia are described as advanced and the investment could exceed R$ two billion. The debate has fuelled online jokes and renewed scrutiny across Brazilian football.
