Pedrinho hits back at Flamengo president over Vasco SAF sale

Vasco president Pedrinho has mocked Flamengo counterpart Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, after he questioned Vasco’s moves to sell control of its SAF. Speaking after the Copa do Brasil quarter-final draw on Tuesday, he said the rival should focus on his own club rather than São Januário’s internal matters.

According to PaponaColina, Bap has turned to regulators to challenge the bid from Almirante Participações e Empreendimentos S.A., led by investor Marcos Lamacchia, citing his family link to Palmeiras president Leila Pereira.

Pedrinho insisted Vasco are strictly following all procedures. He accused critics of speaking without knowledge and said their own record contradicts their claims, singling out Bap and suggesting his fixation makes him seem almost like a Vasco fan.

At CBF headquarters, he said he feels confident, optimistic and excited about progress on the sale of 90% of the SAF shares. The offer under review envisages at least R$ 650 million over the next five years, with Lamacchia’s group the anchor investor holding preference in the competitive process.

The Vasco board is concentrating on the remaining legal and bureaucratic steps to complete the transaction with financial security. The plan foresees fresh funds to restructure the football department and provide stability to the administration.
