Vasco da Gama’s politics have flared after president Pedrinho told senior figures he does not wish to stand in the election set for late 2026, according to PaponaColina. In a meeting on Tuesday 23rd, he struck a farewell tone.
The ballot will determine who leads the club from 2027 to 2029. Allies were caught off guard, with Sempre Vasco, which elected the former player in late 2023, leaving convinced his current intention is not to stay. They are not working on a plan B and hope he could change his mind in the coming months.
No formal decision has been filed. He will complete his current term to the last day.
He cited intense internal politicking as a major factor, which has drained him. He has been unsettled by opposition attempts to obstruct the judicial recovery plan, ratified on Sunday 21st and considered vital for financial restructuring, amid resistance from creditors and political figures.
The most serious issue is personal. In 2025, he was alerted to a kidnapping plot against him, with direct threats and his family exposed, leaving him badly shaken. After removing 777 Partners from football operations in May 2024 and taking control himself, pressure around him intensified and has taken a heavy toll on his personal life.
