Pedrinho has told Vasco officials he does not intend to stand in the club’s 2026 election, which will decide leadership for 2027 to 2029. According to Globo.com, there is no formal decision yet and he will see out his current term.
Allies believe he could still change his mind in the coming months, so the Sempre Vasco group that backed him is not working on a plan B.
The tone of Tuesday’s meeting surprised the club hierarchy, who left convinced that, for now, the president does not wish to seek re-election.
Pedrinho had previously cited fatigue with Vasco politics and threats to his family. On Tuesday he said the club’s politicking had worn him down and expressed irritation at what he sees as opposition attempts to hinder the judicial recovery plan. He regards the plan, approved by a court on Sunday, as vital to the restructuring, though some creditors and political figures oppose it.
Personal matters were also raised. In 2025 he was alerted to an alleged kidnap plot, which left the former player badly shaken by the exposure and threats.
Pedrinho was elected in late 2023 as president of the social club. In May 2024, CRVG filed a lawsuit that removed 777 from control of the football department, after which he assumed day-to-day control of football.
