Enzo Maresca left his job as Chelsea coach this week, putting everything into a mess right at the busiest time of year.

A new coach is going to be appointed soon, but in the meantime the players are going to have to step up and take responsibility. Pedro Neto, one of the more experienced players in the squad, stepped up to speak to the media about the whole situation.

“The mood has to be positive. Football is like this and the only thing we can do is to be with a positive mindset for the next game to win it,” Neto said in a chat with the club’s official website in the aftermath of Maresca’s departure.

He also explained a little about what it had been like for poor Calum McFarlane, who stepped up from the Under-21s to coach the first team:

“That’s what Calum did. He came to training with a positive mindset, with a lot of attitude, and that is what he asks of the players as well. This is what we have to do to win the game on Sunday.

“If we beat Man City we make a big statement that we are here and we will continue to fight for our purpose and for our goals. This is what we have to do. We are at Chelsea, we want to win trophies, we want to be at the top of the league, so we have to work for it.”

That’s a lot of talk – we’ll see how it translates on the pitch tomorrow.

David Datro Fofana is finally at a club where he’s playing and scoring regularly, and he decided to take the chance to apologise to Chelsea fans for not being able to show them his best in his time at the club.

Raheem Sterling needs to leave Chelsea to get his career going again, but right now the combination of his desire to stay in London and his high wages, plus Chelsea’s decision to only allow him to move on a permanent deal, is making it impossible to see where he might go.
