Pedro Neto has perfect English and is a really good speaker in front of the cameras – so he was the perfect person to wheel out to face the media for a press conference in a difficult moment for Chelsea.

He gave an absolute masterclass, staying positive while addressing the tricky moments from the last few games, and steering clear of the traps set by the journalists who tried to get him to contradict his manager Enzo Maresca who had spoken just before him.

Of course the winger addressed all the usual points about the team’s form and recent struggles, claiming that it was just a lack of focus in some moments which was costing the team.

The more interesting part for us as when Neto was asked about his own fitness. He’s been used game after game out wide, and there are worries that he and the rest of the squad would burn out after a busy summer with no real preseason.

He did his part to make us feel better about that too.

Chelsea players like playing more and training less jokes Neto

“As for me, I feel really fresh, I’m really good. I really enjoy to have these sort of games because it means we don’t have to train as much as normal! So it’s really good playing football week in, week out and in the middle of the week, and I really just want to enjoy the football.”

That’s a fun perspective on things. Neto does at least play in a position where there is plenty of cover. Those in central defence and up top may feel their legs are a little heavier after this week, where the likes of Joao Pedro are going to have to play close to 180 minutes.
