The Portuguese Football Federation, led by Pedro Proença, will settle a debt of about 2.6 million euros linked to Fernando Santos’ contract.
According to Glorioso 1904, CEO Helena Pires confirmed the entity would pay the amount relating to the former Portugal coach and ex Benfica manager.
She said the federation is committed to defending its good name, that members and the board took the decision, and that no one is above the law.
Pires also made clear the organisation would not accept any tax structures intended to circumvent obligations.
Last week, after a Social Security notice, a statement outlined immediate settlement of the sums owed, with the matter to be resolved as quickly as possible.
Santos has struggled in recent posts, including with Azerbaijan, where he set negative records and was criticised by the federation’s secretary general.
