The former AC Milan striker Pietro Pellegri has shared some advice for Francesco Camarda, having both made their debuts at a very young age. Indeed, as the Empoli man knows himself, those years are very delicate.
Pellegri became one of the youngest Serie A debutants, third youngest to be exact, as he came off the bench for Genoa in 2016. He was 15 years and 280 days then and in January of the following season, he was picked up by Monaco in a deal worth a whopping €20m.
He only scored two goals for the club, though, and returned to Serie A in 2021 as he joined Milan on a loan. Speaking to La Repubblica yesterday, the striker shared his thoughts on the move but also Francesco Camarda, who became the Serie A debutant last season.
“Honestly, I wasn’t entirely convinced even then. I wanted to return to Italy, but I preferred another team. At Milan, I continued my training path: I was in the dressing room with Ibrahimovic and Giroud, I learned a lot about how to train professionally. I have a portfolio full of lessons and experiences. If I could go back, however, I wouldn’t make that choice again.
“Camarda? I saw his game as a starter against Cagliari, he’s a player with great prospects, he has quality. I would tell him to have fun and listen to the people who love him, they will be the most sincere with him.”
Indeed, it will be very important for Milan to protect Camarda and make sure too much responsibility isn’t put on his shoulders too early. The contract renewal in the summer was the best move as a Pellegri-esque move isn’t recommended.
