Pietro Pellegri has claimed that he would not join AC Milan if presented with the opportunity, having arrived at the club on an initial loan deal.
Rewinding to 2016, there was a lot of hype about the player that Pellegri might become. At the age of 15 years and 280 days, he joined Amedeo Amadei as the joint-youngest player to appear in Serie A at the time.
On 28 May the following year, he netted in a 3–2 away loss against Roma, becoming the first player born in the 21st century to ever score in Serie A.
A move to Monaco followed in 2018, and then he came back to Italy when he joined Milan on loan in the winter window of the 2021-22 campaign. He made just a handful of appearances and offered little impact.
Pellegri spoke about his career to date during an interview with La Repubblica, and he offered an honest reflection on his time at Milan with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.
“Honestly, I wasn’t entirely convinced even then. I wanted to return to Italy, but I preferred another team. At Milan, I continued my training path: I was in the dressing room with Ibrahimovic and Giroud, I learned a lot about how to train professionally. I have a portfolio full of lessons and experiences. If I could go back, however, I wouldn’t make that choice again,” he said.
“Camarda? I saw his game as a starter against Cagliari, he’s a player with great prospects, he has quality. I would tell him to have fun and listen to the people who love him, they will be the most sincere with him.”
