Pellegrini and Patric ‘not to be reinstated’ yet at Lazio | OneFootball

Il Messaggero reports there are no immediate plans to restore Luca Pellegrini or Patric to Lazio’s Serie A squad after their surprise omission this month.

Patric still has some hope of a return later in the season, whereas Pellegrini is expected to remain out until January, when he will be put on the transfer market.

When the list was submitted, Lazio left two places free, with sporting director Angelo Fabiani saying this was to accommodate potential free agents. Diogo Leite has since taken one berth and the club considered Mauro Icardi, but Gennaro Gattuso indicated he was content with his attacking options. One place therefore remains.

Gattuso already has five full-backs for two roles, left-backs Nuno Tavares and Alfonso Pedraza, plus right-backs Adam Marusic, Romano Floriani Mussolini and Manuel Lazzari. Pellegrini is surplus to requirements.

At centre-back Lazio have four options, Josip Sutalo, Oliver Provstgaard, Danilho Doekhi and Leite. In that context, an experienced profile like Patric could still provide depth, as well as being a respected figure in the dressing room.
