Lorenzo Pellegrini’s future in Rome is at a standstill, with his contractual situation beginning to dangerously resemble that of Paulo Dybala.
As La Repubblica reports, Roma’s foundations are shaky, with two of the most iconic players of recent years facing an uncertain future, despite sharing a desire to stay in the capital.
The midfielder is waiting for a signal from the Giallorossi management to begin contract renewal talks, but so far the only communication has come from the pitch, via Gian Piero Gasperini.
The coach has let Pellegrini work on the pitch, and the player has always responded “present.”
Pellegrini’s will is clear and driven by his love for Roma: the player is ready to stay.
Essentially, Lorenzo will leave only in one case: if the club’s will differs from his. The difficulty lies in club policy. A few weeks ago, sporting director Frederic Massara reiterated that “nothing has happened in the negotiations” regarding Pellegrini and Dybala.
The reason is linked to the owners’ desire to impose a ban on heavy contracts for players over 30. Both Paulo (32) and Lorenzo (29) are currently among the most expensive players for the Giallorossi coffers.
Time is running out for the midfielder, who risks seeing his leadership fade for purely economic and strategic reasons, unless the management decides to make an exception for a player so attached to the shirt.
