Luboslav Penev is back in management, taking charge of Lokomotiv Sofia after coming through a serious illness.
AS reports that the former Atlético, Valencia and Celta striker spent months in hospital with kidney cancer. He received treatment in Germany after a plea for help that prompted fundraising efforts around the world.
He returns to the touchline at a club with deep family ties. For Penev, it is a first opening after his ordeal and a chance to reconnect with an institution that has always mattered to him.
His comeback arrives almost two years after a previous spell with Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
At his unveiling, Penev said he has a bond with the club that is renewed from today, and he hopes things go well so they can deliver good results, which he called their job. Owner Veselin Stoyanov wished him health and success.
