Man City host their local rivals in a heavyweight Premier League clash on Sunday
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that several of the injured Manchester City players are in contention to return against Manchester United
City welcome their neighbours to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday hoping to avoid a third straight Premier League defeat following back-to-back losses to Tottenham and Brighton before the international break.
Those defeats mean City go into the game one point behind Man Utd, though they can leapfrog their rivals in the table with victory.
Having failed to beat United in the Premier League last season, Man City will be out to gain a measure of revenge for the 2-1 loss suffered in the corresponding fixture back in December.
In a massive boost, Guardiola looks set to welcome back a number of key players for the Manchester derby.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference on Friday, the Spaniard confirmed that Omar Marmoush, Ryan Ait-Nouri and Ryan Cherki are unavailable for selection but that the likes of Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol and Savinho are fine.
“Omar [Marmoush] is injured, he came from Egypt. Rayan [Ait] Nouri and Rayan Cherki (also out) and the rest fine.”
Guardiola did reveal that John Stones is doubtful with the injury that forced the defender to withdraw from the England squad for the World Cup qualification double-header against Andorra and Serbia.
“Stones is a doubt,” Guardiola added. “It’s not a big, big issue but he is doubtful for Sunday.”
With regards to Marmoush, the forward is set to miss games against Man Utd, Napoli and Arsenal but is expected to be available for selection before the October international break.
Guardiola said: "We have to wait for tests but a few weeks I think. Before the international break he will be ready."
