Pep Guardiola is sold on Atalanta midfielder Ederson Silva as Manchester City table a €50 million bid for the Brazil international ahead of the summer transfer window, as per a new report.

Manchester City are set to undergo significant upheaval in their midfield ranks come the end of the season and that will begin with the departure of Kevin De Bruyne, who has not been offered a new deal by club bosses ahead of the expiration of his current contract on June 30.

There remains uncertainty over the future(s) of Portuguese pair Matheus Nunes and Bernardo Silva at the Etihad Stadium as the former has been told publicly he has next to no chance to play in his preferred midfield position under Guardiola.

As for Silva, the 30-year-old is attracting interest from Benfica and after years of seeking a possible move away from England closer to his homeland in Portugal, this could be the summer when the six-time Premier League winner does get his wish.

Manchester City have seen Ballon d’Or winner Rodri return to first-team training ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final meeting with Nottingham Forest at Wembley but it is highly unlikely that the Spaniard features for the Blues this season.

Guardiola was asked whether Rodri could go on to play any role in the run-in ahead of Sunday’s cup tie and the Manchester City manager made it clear it will be a decision made by the club’s medical staff after assessing Rodri’s fitness over when he is okay to return.

Mateo Kovacic has proven to be a more-than-capable stand in for Rodri after the latter suffered an ACL injury against Arsenal in September 2024 and the Croatian is likely to stay on in Manchester City colours next term after enjoying the best goalscoring season of his career.

Ilkay Gundogan is getting on but the 34-year-old has met the conditions to trigger an automatic extension clause entered into his Manchester City contract, which Guardiola has admitted is highly likely to keep the German at the Etihad Stadium into the 2025-26 term.

As reported by Tutto Atalanta, whose information has been relayed by Sport Witness, Pep Guardiola has given club bosses the green light to table a serious approach for Atalanta’s Ederson Silva ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ederson is highly rated by Guardiola and it is understood that Atalanta will be tempted into cashing in on one of their most prized assets should Manchester City make an offer in the region of €50 million bid for the 25-year-old Brazilian.
