Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was delighted with new arrivals Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi in a 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Omar Marmoush and Semenyo helped the Blues to their first Premier League triumph of 2026 and saw City return to winning ways after consecutive losses at the hands of Manchester United and Bodo/Glimt.

City saw £20 million signing Guehi make his full debut at the Etihad Stadium, with the 25-year-old England international partnering Abdukodir Khusanov in central defence as Max Alleyne dropped to the bench.

Arsenal face a tricky test at home against Manchester United on Sunday evening and the blue half of Manchester will be hoping for a favour from their local rivals, with City reducing the gap to Arsenal to four points as a result of Saturday’s 2-0 victory.

Semenyo, who joined forces with Guardiola after a £64 million transfer from Bournemouth, notched his third goal in Manchester City colours on the cusp of half-time as he slotted the ball into the bottom left corner after being teed in by Bernardo Silva.

“Antoine Semenyo came with a lot of energy and numbers; strikers are a question of numbers, and since he arrived has been unbelievable,” Guardiola said in his post-match press conference.

“He made a good goal; it looks easy but the control is perfect, passing the ball in the net. He made another chance, had another.”

Guehi was a rolls-royce figure in defence as he commanded the backline to a much-needed clean sheet, impressing with his ability on the ball and positional awareness against a Wolves attack that posed a threat from time to time.

“He’s come for many years, an opportunity, the transfer is really good,” Guardiola added on Guehi. “A perfect age, incredible signing for Manchester City for the next many years.

“He’s a guy you can rely on; you see it from two training sessions – how he moves, talks, sees what happens around him, reading situations. Really good.”

City will be hoping to put a run of wins together as they aim to finish January better than they began the first month of the new calendar year, having won thrice in their last eight games in all competitions.

The Blues welcome Galatasaray to the Etihad Stadium in their final UEFA Champions League group-stage fixture next week, a game where three points are a must for City to stake a claim in the top eight of the group-phase standings so as to avoid the play-offs.
