Premier League champions have seen squad decimated by injuries this season

For the first time in his storied managerial career, Guardiola is dealing with a crisis of results and faces the difficult task of a Premier League trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

City threw a three-goal lead away against Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday to draw 3-3, extending their winless run to an unprecedented six games for Guardiola.

That followed last weekend’s 4-0 thrashing at home to Tottenham and leaves City way off the pace in the Premier League title race.

Arne Slot’s side lead the way by eight points already and could extend that a whopping 11 with victory at Anfield, with Guardiola previously admitting defeat would spell an end to his hopes of a fifth consecutive League title.

While injuries have played a major role at City this season, much has been made about the lack of compelling options in their squad. The fact there is no replacement for Rodri has been questioned, albeit it is not easy to provide cover for a player crowned this year’s Ballon d'Or winner.

When asked about a potential rebuild on Friday, Guardiola responded: “I don't completely agree.

“Three months ago we won Premier League, we were in the FA Cup final and we arrived in the Champions League quarter-finals, defeated by playing extraordinary vs Real Madrid. It's the same team!”

Guardiola added: “We will be back, I know that. I don't know when. That is the truth”.

“We are second in the Premier League table, we are not in a good moment in terms of results, but I have the feeling in general that we played more than decent, but not enough to win games”.

City could welcome Ruben Dias back to the trip to Liverpool, with the defender returning to the bench for the Feyenoord game following a recent calf injury.
