Man City have won 10 competitive trophies since the Gunners last lifted silverware
Pep Guardiola believes the years Arsenal have spent “not winning” trophies will give them an advantage in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
The Gunners have not lifted silverware since the 2020 FA Cup final, which was played behind closed doors at Wembley Stadium.
It marked the first, and to date only, competitive trophy won by current manager Mikel Arteta, six months after his arrival.
A long six years has followed, with several near-misses, most notably finishing as runners-up in the Premier League for the last three seasons.
But this season Arsenal find themselves heavily fancied to end their trophy drought, as they continue to fight on four fronts for an unprecedented quadruple.
Arsenal are currently favourites to win the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League and, this Sunday, the Carabao Cup.
Guardiola’s Manchester City side stands in their way.
City have won 10 competitive trophies since Arteta & Co. lifted the FA Cup in August 2020, but Guardiola believes Arsenal’s trophy drought will work in their favour at Wembley.
He told reporters: "[Arsenal] control many things and many aspects of the game. The spirit for many years of not winning makes that boost and the solidarity in other aspects.
"They control when they defend deep, when they hide, build-up, long balls, second balls, so many good things.
"In the Champions League they won all their games in the group stage and just drew against Leverkusen, so it will be a big challenge to see our level."
