City boss Pep Guardiola says Rodri is set to be sidelined for Wednesday night’s key Premier League trip to Burnley.

The holding midfielder came off towards the end of last Sunday’s crucial 2-1 Premier League win at home to leaders Arsenal.

In the immediate aftermath of the game, Guardiola revealed that Rodri had suffered an issue with his groin.

And addressing the media at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, the City boss provided the latest update on the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner and said he was unlikely to be available for the trip to East Lancashire.

“I think for tomorrow he will not be ready. We’ll see for next games the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton or 12 days later for the Premier League game at Everton,” Pep revealed.

The boss also provided the latest news on central defender Ruben Dias who has been absent since last month’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie at home to Real Madrid.

“He is not yet ready,” Pep added.

Opposing Manager - SCOTT PARKER

After enjoying a successful playing career, Scott Parker started his managerial career at Fulham in 2019 as he took over in a caretaker capacity for the Cottagers, before being offered the role on a permanent basis.

Parker then guided the London side to the Premier League, before heading down south to take charge of Bournemouth in 2021.

After a short stint at Club Brugge, he was appointed as head coach of Burnley in July 2024 and won his third managerial promotion from the Championship in his first season.

So far the Clarets have earnt a 2-0 win over Sunderland in the second week of the 2025/26 Premier League season and earned a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Previous meeting

A late Erling Haaland double, two Maxime Esteve own goals and a Matheus Nunes strike fired us to a deserved 5-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

City had taken a 12th minute lead via Esteve’s first own goal after initial fine work from Jeremy Doku.

But against the run of the play, Scott Parker’s visitors then drew level seven minutes before the break thanks to a Jaidon Anthony strike.

However, City’s persistence and patience was rewarded on 61 minutes when Nunes fired home a brilliant 12-yard volley to restore our advantage.

And within four minutes the Blues pulled further ahead as the unfortunate Esteve again put into his own net under pressure from substitute Oscar Bobb just moments after the Norwegian had come on from the bench.

A fine afternoon’s work was then rounded off when Haaland, who had provided the assist for Nunes, twice struck late on to take his tally for the season for club and country to a remarkable 13 goals and move City up into the top five in the table.

Last time out

Erling Haaland’s second-half strike fired City to 2-1 victory over league leaders Arsenal at the Etihad.

The result saw us move within three points of the Premier League summit.

Rayan Cherki fired City into a 16th minute lead after bamboozling the Gunners defence with a sublime piece of skill before drilling home a sweetly struck shot.

Within 30 seconds however Arsenal drew level through Kai Havertz after the Gunners striker harried an attempted Gianluigi Donnarumma clearance with the ball ricocheting into the net.

In what was an intense, high quality affair, Arsenal twice struck the post after the break through Eberechi Eze and Gabriel.

However, a relentless City, who had also struck the woodwork twice through Cherki and Haaland, were not to be denied.

And, as so often, it was Haaland who delivered, the striker firing home on 65 minutes to lift the roof off the Etihad and secure a huge three points to move us to within three of the Gunners - and with a precious game in hand.
