Pep Guardiola believes City’s four successive Premier League titles is now looking even more impressive.

The Blues’ domestic domination from 2020 to 2024 was unprecedented in English men’s football.

And asked if Liverpool’s recent poor results prove how difficult defending your title is and served as further evidence of the magnitude of that quadruple achievement of league crowns, the boss said: “Absolutely - that’s why we want to still be there and prove it many times. After you win [the title] you can go down, we did not. We were there.

“I know and I always defend that we have to do it together. I take the responsibility when I make 10 new players. I know the consequences will be bad. It happened.

“It’s easy for me to play same players and going back. What are you doing Pep? I know, but at the same time I’ve done it many times, it’s fine.

“Managers are only in the position, [that] when you think a lot is a bad thing.

“Now we have a game tomorrow and another one in three days and another in four days.”

City take on Leeds United on Saturday (15:00 UK), with Guardiola hoping his side can bounce back from successive losses against Newcastle and Leverkusen.

He says he has the same confidence in his players he has always had but believes the midweek team selection may have contributed to our Champions League loss.

“I said the same, my opinion on [my players] and the standard of them is top,” Pep added.

“Nothing changed from my thoughts of them as football players, they are good players. I just learn that I make a mistake.

“[We need] good actions and do the simple things, attack, score the goals. Defensively, be aggressive enough to win the duels and be present.

“Our fans make an effort to come see us and were grateful. In this stadium for many years, if we do what we have to do they are there.

“We have to do what we try to do; we have to control ourselves and play better.

“I learnt that years ago when I was a player for Barcelona we had to do it ourselves, that is not what it is about. We have to do better.”
