Iñaki Williams struck in stoppage time to hand Valencia a late defeat in a match that had seemed destined for extra time. Valencia were booed off at full time.
The setback deflated a side who had battled to take the match beyond 90 minutes. According to AS, 20 supporters waited by the team bus and shouted that the players were mercenaries who did not deserve the shirt.
Foulquier was heavily booed throughout and jeers followed almost every touch. Corberán also heard timid calls for his resignation, but it went no further.
Pepelu, captain on the night, fronted up afterwards, admitting the squad were down because they had high hopes for this competition. He said they must pick themselves up with three days to go before facing Madrid, and said they are convinced they can do it again.
He felt Valencia failed to manage the closing minutes with extra time in sight, and urged the group to move forward. Pepelu backed Corberán completely, adding that while the manager leads, it is the players on the pitch who must manage certain situations.
