Manchester United are close to sanctioning their sixth sale of the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Facundo Pellistri is set for a permanent move to the Greek club Panathinaikos.
Man United will receive a £5.1 million transfer fee and have a sell-on clause to profit from his future sale.
Pellistri joined Old Trafford in a £7.2m deal four years ago but has managed just 611 minutes of play across 25 appearances for the Red Devils.
United have already bid farewell to Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Willy Kambwala, Donny van de Beek and Alvaro Fernandez this summer.
Will Fish is also reportedly set for an Old Trafford exit with Cardiff City potentially his next destination.
It is hard to understand why a player was not handed opportunities at the club level when he was a regular for his international team.
Pellistri has featured 26 times for Uruguay, scoring twice and registering eight assists.
The 22-year-old spent two separate loan terms with Deportivo Alaves. He was allowed another short-term spell with Granada CF in the second half of the 2023/24 season.
He netted only twice in 15 La Liga appearances and failed to catch the attention of the United hierarchy.
Amad Diallo’s impressive stint at Sunderland allowed him to gain valuable experience. He excelled with the Black Cats and showed his pedigree to shine at a high level.
Pellistri needed to make a similar impact but failed to seize that chance effectively.
United are selling the youngster at a discount as he has just one year left in his contract. However, they have a sizeable sell-on clause that could help them earn good money in the future.
They have incorporated the same clause when selling Greenwood, Kambwala and Fernandez this season.
