Maximo Perrone says his loan spell at Spanish side Las Palmas last season has helped take his game to new heights.

The midfielder was on target in City’s opening pre-season friendly against Celtic in North Carolina, confidently sweeping home Oscar Bobb’s cutback moments after coming off the bench.

Perrone featured 30 times for Las Palmas across 2023/24, helping them retain their top flight status in a league which he feels has different demands to English football.

It was a spell which he believes will have a huge benefit on his future career for City, as we prepare to face AC Milan in New York on Saturday 27 July.

“My season in Las Palmas, I feel like I have grown to say the least. I obtained the minutes that I wanted, and it was very positive,” the Argentine explained.

“I grew a lot, not only in the football aspect but also with my personal growth it has been positive. I enjoyed it a lot.

“I think they [La Liga and Premier League] are two completely different leagues. The Premier League is a lot more physical a lot of back and forth.

“La Liga is where you play a lot slower pace. What is important is keeping the ball and how long you keep it for.

“They’re two different leagues but each has its best qualities about themselves.”

While Perrone was extremely positive about his spell out on loan, the 21-year-old admitted he’s pleased to be back at City once again.

The Argentine was following Pep Guardiola’s men’s progress from afar and believes our success in 2023/24, where we were crowned Premier League champions for a record fourth season in a row, cemented our place as one of the best teams around.

He added: “Obviously I have been following them. I think that they have shown we’re the best team in the world again.

“Even though they didn’t obtain all the titles like they did last season, the way they play shows why they are the best.

“It’s a place which you enjoy and learn a lot. I’m enjoying being back at City every day.”
