Phil Foden stars as Man City thrash Dortmund 4-1 to stay unbeaten in Champions League | OneFootball

Manchester City continued their unbeaten start to the Champions League campaign on Wednesday evening, beating Borussia Dortmund 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Dortmund started the game promisingly but it was City who created the first chance when Jeremy Doku’s shot was deflected wide by Marcel Sabitzer.

City drew first blood in the 22nd minute as Phil Foden collected the ball on the half-turn outside the penalty area from Tijjani Reijnders and squeezed it into the bottom corner.

The strike marked Foden’s 10th goal from outside the box for City across all competitions since the 2023/24 season — the most by any Premier League player within that time.

Gregor Kobel pulled off a save in the 28th minute, preventing Nico O’Reilly from doubling City’s lead, but could do nothing to stop Erling Haaland moments later.

The Norwegian received a cut back from Doku and smashed the ball into the net, scoring his sixth goal in the competition this term.

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was called into action for the first time in the game in the 40th minute, saving Karim Adeyemi’s effort.

Just after the restart, Savinho had a pop saved by Kobel before Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha missed the target.

Foden added to the Cityzens’ advantage in the 56th minute with a brilliant finish from the edge of the box, after receiving a pass from Reijnders.

Waldemar Anton pulled one back for Dortmund, smashing the ball home from Julian Ryerson’s low cross.

Adeyemi almost scored another for the German side, but his goal-bound effort was blocked by John Stones.

Substitute Rayan Cherki completed the scoring in the stoppage-time, bagging his first goal for Man City in the competition.
