Philadelphia Union team news

The Philadelphia Union will want to put their poor MLS form behind them (2W-1D-3L) and get a good result against Atlas.

Speaking with the media on Monday, head coach Jim Curtin did say that there could be some rotation in the starting eleven, but nothing “too drastic.” Seeing as though the Union played a physical match against Sporting KC a few days ago, swapping in players who are well-rested will certainly be seen in this upcoming game.

Curtin also praised Atlas’ attack saying that they play with emotion and are quite physical. Kai Wagner wasn’t seen at Union training suffering from a minor hamstring tear, so there could be a chance that the 26-year-old won't be fit in time to start tomorrow.

Goalkeeper and talisman Andre Blake returned from an adductor strain over the weekend, so he will be available for Curtin once more.

Atlas team news

Atlas has won two of their last matches in Liga MX, most recently tying Chivas Guadalajara in a thrilling 3-3 match.

Head coach Benjamin Mora will have his team well-prepared against a physical Union side that likes to play fast. Lining up in a 5-3-2 against Guadalajara on Saturday, Atlas dominated possession and the xG tally, racking up 23 shots with eleven on target. Mora says he hopes his squad can recover quickly and that playing a team like the Union will be an excellent opportunity for the club.

Philadelphia Union vs Atlas score prediction

Both teams have great quality and two coaches that will want to be on the front foot.

However, the Union is playing at home and the crowd will get behind them. They will have Julian Caranza, who’s a bright young striker, and a hungry Daniel Gazdag, who will want to get the Union back to winning ways.

Atlas won’t make it easy, though. With the likes of Colombian winger Julian Quinones who recently scored twice, the Union defense will have their hands full.

In the end, this match screams a 2-2 draw.

Each side has dangerous attacking players that can hurt each other, and with it being the first game of the tie, both coaches will be looking to get a result.
