The Canaries boss has opened up on the club’s summer transfer plans.

Despite Norwich City missing out on the play-offs, optimism remains that the Canaries can push for promotion next season under Philippe Clement.

The Belgian boss completely transformed the Norfolk outfit’s fortunes when taking over from Liam Manning last November, steering them well away from relegation danger while also threatening a late top six charge.

Alas, it never quite happened, with the Canaries leaving it too little too late, but such an increase in performance levels and quality on the pitch has helped the club believe again that they can go toe-to-toe with the very best sides in the division.

Of course, recruitment this summer for Norwich will be paramount to helping Clement succeed in getting Norwich back into promotion contention, with the 52-year-old needing to be backed with players who can handle the rough and tumble of the Championship.

Now that the regular second tier season is over, many clubs will be putting plans in place of how to attack the upcoming summer transfer window.

And Norwich boss Clement has revealed what their transfer plans will be, but admitted a key upcoming footballing event in the calendar could scupper some of their immediate aims.

As per a report in the Pink Un, Norwich City boss Philippe Clement has revealed he wants the Canaries to be fast out of the traps when it comes to landing their summer targets but admitted the upcoming World Cup could make it difficult to land their desired targets as quickly as they would like.

Clement said: “We want to have our business done as fast as possible.

“The World Cup is a factor for the market, for sure, because you have players going to the World Cup who don't want to sign for anybody anywhere else, because they know if they score two, three goals there that their situation can totally change, or their agent is probably telling them that.

“You have teams who have a lot of players going to the World Cup who will keep other players longer into the building, although they don't want to continue with them during the next season, to have a good pre-season and to train with enough people and to have friendly games with enough players, so that also stops getting them earlier. We will see.”

But Clement has insisted that Norwich have a plan in place to scope targets who are not at the World Cup, handing them the opportunity to get a full pre-season under their belt.

Clement added: “Not everybody's going to the World Cup. That's the positive thing. And not all the teams in the world have 10 players at the World Cup.

“We will see what we can find. Sometimes it's fast, sometimes it's later. You can never predict this. That I learned in all these years.

"Sometimes you want to get somebody really fast in, but you need to wait. Sometimes negotiations take also three, four or five weeks with a certain player or club. We don't have a crystal ball.”

Norwich City transfer business will signal statement of intent

Philippe Clement is right to demand that the Norwich recruitment team complete their transfer business quickly, which would give the squad the best possible chance to settle down and get familiar with each other before the 2026-27 campaign kicks off.

The Canaries will have to be at the front of the queue to land some of their preferred targets on their shortlist, and provided they can strike the balance between having quality and Championship experience, then you’d back them to get into the new top eight for next term in what will prove to be yet another fiercely competitive second tier campaign.

After their exploits under Clement last term, many are expecting Norwich to put up a fight and be situated towards the top end of the table, so the club will have to manage those expectations and ensure they deliver on the pitch to keep the supporters on side.

It proves to be a big season to come for Norwich, who will be hopeful that they can give themselves a chance of ending what has been a five-year exodus from the top-flight.
