A mural painted to honour the efforts of Barcelona star Ferran Torres in the recent World Cup final was defaced in the city of Barcelona on Wednesday.

Frontman Ferran is for his part of course fresh off etching his name into the history books of football this past weekend.

Introduced off the bench during Spain’s World Cup finale showdown with Argentina, the 26-year-old went on to net the game’s only goal deep into extra-time.

Tributes, in turn, have since come pouring in for a player whose name will go down in Spanish football folklore.

One such tribute came courtesy of a mural in Catalunya, showcasing Ferran kissing the World Cup trophy in the aftermath of Sunday’s clash.

As alluded to above, however, the painting in question has since been vandalised. After first being covered by white paint, the mural was further defaced with a clear message on the part of a group of locals:

‘We want one national team for Spain, and one national team for Catalunya’
