Piccinato: Fans’ support key for Corinthians at Women’s Club World Cup

Corinthians landed in London, the capital of England, and began preparations focused on competing in the FIFA Women's Club World Cup, a global tournament that brings together the champion clubs from each continent in women's football. Coach Lucas Piccinato spoke about the anticipation of playing in a tournament of this caliber and praised the presence of the Fiel Torcida.

“Expectations are very high. It’s a very important moment in world women’s football: the first competition sanctioned by FIFA. Being able to take the name of Corinthians to the top teams in the world is a huge honor. We know there are big challenges ahead, but we are going very well prepared to raise the name of Corinthians as high as possible.,” said the coach in an interview with Meu Timão.

“The World Cup ended up coming in the following season and not at the end of the season, as usually happens in the men's game. So, there’s a natural vacation period after a very long season, but also a period in which we did a very good preparation so that we arrive in great condition to compete with big teams. The expectation is very good to do a great job. Of course, we know the difficulty we will face, as there are different styles of play, but we are also prepared to face all of this and come back with the much-dreamed-of title.“, the coach added.

Right upon arrival, the Corinthians delegation was greeted by fans present in the English capital. “For sure, the Fiel is extremely important to us and pushes us every day in every game. Knowing that the Corinthians fans will be with us at this moment is extremely important. We are very anxious to meet them there and hope we can stage an invasion in England and play a great match.,” emphasized Piccinato.

In addition to new signings, Corinthians also kept key players from the squad that won the Brazilian and Libertadores championships. One of these is Duda Sampaio, who arrives as one of the top midfielders in Brazilian football, with a chance to play in the World Cup, but first having the opportunity to win the Club World Cup.

“I think the expectation is really good, right? The anxiety to get to this moment soon, now with the trip I’m sure we’re going to start switching gears and really get into the mood. I think it’s very important for us to be aware, right? We always dreamed of having this world championship, we see the level of our teams here in Brazil compared to teams from abroad, so this is a very important moment, I think for the sport, especially with the World Cup next year, so it’s a really, really cool moment for us to experience this here. I’m sure we prepared well so that we can have a great competition there“, said the player.

Another standout is Nicole, who was decisive in the Libertadores title that secured the Brabas’ spot in the Club World Cup. “The importance is huge, right? I think we’re very privileged to be representing Corinthians at such an important moment in history. I hope we can have a great tournament and make our mark with the title as well“

The Corinthians match is scheduled for January 28, against Gotham FC. The winner of the semifinal will face whoever wins the other bracket, contested between ASFAR and Arsenal. The grand final is set for February 1, in London.
