Switzerland director Pierluigi Tami says he and Murat Yakin were not satisfied with Leeds winger Noah Okafor despite efforts to integrate him.

Okafor stepped down earlier this month, saying he would not play under Yakin after trust was broken and promises were not kept at the World Cup. According to Blick, Tami said Yakin had been clear about his selection.

Tami said Okafor's qualities sometimes do not suit Yakin's plan, staff tried to integrate him, and that, in the end, his performances did not convince. He noted players see their own view while coaches must see the whole picture.

Yakin had cited recent injuries and teammates further along. Okafor played 19 minutes at the tournament, coming on in a 2-0 win over Algeria, after an eight-goal, one-assist Premier League season at Elland Road.

The 26-year-old will not join new teammate Nico Elvedi with Switzerland, instead taking time off before returning to West Yorkshire.

Daniel Farke said it was Okafor's decision, he appreciated being told and considers him a key player who feels at home at Leeds. He added the national-team call is for Okafor and his family.

Since stepping away, his Old Trafford chant has rung around Elland Road twice. He scored in the 4-1 win over Newcastle United and was nudged towards the fans by teammates.
