Dedication, professionalism, experience, and years of hard work. After a long journey that began on 8 March 1990 in San Felice a Cancello, a small town in the province of Caserta, Pietro Terracciano now dons the Rossoneri jersey. The former Fiorentina goalkeeper, and a longstanding rival of ours in hard-fought Serie A clashes, is the third new signing of the summer. He brings valuable qualities to our team of goalkeepers.
With his impressive stature, standing 193 centimetres tall, the Campania-born goalkeeper stands out for his command of the box and excellent positioning, complemented by sharp reflexes between the posts. Years of Serie A experience, most notably with Fiorentina, and three strong campaigns in the Conference League in recent seasons have helped raise his profile at the top level. It's a rise built on solid foundations, as Terracciano's career has been years in the making.
After coming through the youth ranks at Avellino, Terracciano's first professional experience came in the 2009/10 season with Nocerina in the Lega Pro Second Division, a level he continued to compete in the following season with Milazzo. Those two promising years laid the groundwork for a crucial move, as he stayed in southern Italy but took a significant step up with a transfer to Catania. Between 2011 and 2013, he served mostly as the team's backup goalkeeper, though he did make his Serie A debut on 25 April 2012.
The following years saw Terracciano alternating between his return to Avellino and a second stint at Catania, before reaching the next key stop in his career: Salerno. At Salernitana, he became a regular starter in two Serie B campaigns. He delivered consistently and contributed to Granata's successful fight for survival. In 2017, he moved to Empoli, where he made further appearances in Serie A over the course of a year and a half.
In January 2019, Terracciano made another move, though only a short one geographically, transferring from Empoli to Fiorentina in a swap deal involving Polish goalkeeper Drągowski. After a few seasons as a backup, his career took off in 2021/22 with the arrival of Vincenzo Italiano on the banks of the Arno. The coach put his faith in Terracciano, who gradually climbed the ranks of the Viola squad. Over the next three seasons, Pietro became Fiorentina's first-choice goalkeeper and played a key role in the club's return to European competition, reaching three finals across the Coppa Italia and Conference League, and securing several European qualifications.
His performances have also earned him individual recognition, as he was named in the Conference League 2023/24 Team of the Season. Now a new chapter begins in a different city, Milan, with a club that, interestingly, already has a Terracciano jersey worn by Filippo Terracciano, but he is not related to Pietro. This coincidence echoes the Filippo and Giovanni Galli partnership from a different era of AC Milan history, with the hope that the Terraccianos will one day be remembered for their success, just as the Gallis are.
