According to O Jogo, Oskar Pietuszewski has been named in Poland’s provisional senior squad for the World Cup play-off, with FC Porto formally notified. If he does not make his senior debut, he will represent the under-21s at the end of the month in European qualifying.
His potential elevation is a major talking point in Poland after three goals and one assist for Porto.
The national coach has urged caution, saying he is playing very well but that excitement is premature. He noted the winger won a penalty on his debut yet still needs to do more and also makes mistakes. He added they might need him, but will keep monitoring and could prefer someone more experienced.
The Poland squad announcement is scheduled for Friday.
Pietuszewski scored his third league goal against Moreirense, making him the third youngest to reach that mark in Portugal at 17 years and nine months. Only teammate Rodrigo Mora at 17 years and seven months and Cristiano Ronaldo at 17 years and eight months for Sporting in 2002/03 achieved it younger.
