Al-Ittihad have removed president Fahd Sindi with immediate effect after a government move to shift stakes in the kingdom's major clubs to the Public Investment Fund.

According to Goal.com, the Ministry of Sport said on Wednesday that the 25% holdings controlled by non-profit institutions would begin transferring to the Public Investment Fund. That would leave the fund as full owner of Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli, with boards set to be dissolved once statutory procedures finish.

Within hours, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli announced their club-company boards would continue for 90 days from 17 July. They said the extension was to maintain stability and complete required procedures.

Al-Ittihad diverged, using their statement to confirm Sindi's departure in line with the ministry's decision and thanking him for his service.

Sindi had come under sustained criticism, including from Saudi broadcaster Waleed Al-Farraj, who had urged a change amid the club's recent problems. Further developments around leadership at the Roshn League's biggest clubs are expected as the fund is set to begin transferring ownership to the private sector.
