Famalicão beat Arouca 1-0 on Friday at the Estádio Municipal 22 de Junho, staying sixth in Liga Portugal as Rodrigo Pinheiro's late strike settled a tight contest.
Early on, Gil Dias and Simon Elisor drew saves from Ignacio de Arruabarrena, while Nais Djouahra forced Lazar Carevic into a stop at the other end.
In the 82nd minute, Rodrigo Pinheiro drove a right-footed shot from outside the box into the bottom left to decide the game.
Marcos Peña departed injured midway through the second half, and substitutes Pedro Miguel Costa Santos and Umar Abubakar injected pace. Costa Santos' crossing teed up chances, with Abubakar's header saved and Roméo Beney firing narrowly wide.
In second half stoppage time, Leonardo Realpe's header from a Costa Santos cross was held by de Arruabarrena as Famalicão saw the game out.
Famalicão registered six shots on target from 12 attempts and had 54.7% possession. Arouca mustered four efforts on target from 10 attempts and made 44 clearances.
