Gerard Piqué will attend Sunday’s Supercopa final in Jeddah. The former Barcelona defender helped take the tournament to Saudi Arabia, now a key pillar of the federation’s budget worth 51 million euros per season.
As reported by as.com, he notified the federation of his trip and was told there was no problem, clearing the way for his presence at ‘his’ tournament.
Florentino Pérez will not travel for Thursday’s Madrid derby in Jeddah and will only go to the Supercopa if Real Madrid reach the final. Last year he arrived in the city hours before the final against Barcelona.
After meeting Barcelona and Athletic on Wednesday, Rafael Louzán will visit the other two teams’ hotels on Thursday. Atlético president Enrique Cerezo will attend both the meeting and the match. For Real Madrid, José Ángel Sánchez will represent the club in the meeting and in the directors’ box, and relations between Ciudad del Fútbol and Valdebebas are cold.
An official reception for the finalists is planned on Saturday, alongside Spanish business figures present in Saudi Arabia. The Spanish embassy will also attend.
LaLiga president Javier Tebas, also an RFEF vice-president, will attend Atlético v Real Madrid. It will be his first time at this competition and he has not previously been to Saudi Arabia.
