Joaquín Piquerez is back in contention for Palmeiras after months out, with a duel for the left-back slot against Arthur Gabriel.
According to Nosso Palestra, the Uruguay international completed the mid-season programme and has rejoined full training.
He has not played since March, having been injured on 27 March during a friendly between Uruguay and England. He returned to Brazil for tests, was diagnosed with ligament damage in his right ankle and underwent an operation.
The recovery progressed through the following weeks. In May he was already doing ball work at the club’s training base, then linked up with Uruguay for the World Cup but did not feature.
After the national team’s elimination, he reported back on Monday and, two days later, took part in a training game as his fitness continued to improve following three months of rehabilitation.
Before the setback he was first choice, but the picture has shifted. Arthur seized opportunities during the absences of rivals and established himself in the senior squad.
Aged 20, Arthur has been at Palmeiras since 2017 and is under contract until 2029. An academy product, he is known for his attacking support, technique and ability to operate in tight spaces on the left.
He began 2026 as back-up, gained traction amid the layoffs of Piquerez and Jefté, then overcame a right-thigh oedema to return to full training in May.
