After six rounds of the Premier League, Arsenal sit second in the table, two points behind Liverpool.
Pirès: "If Arteta doesn't win the Premier League, he'll be sacked"
Arsenal invested heavily this summer to strengthen their squad. But according to club legend Robert Pirès, patience has its limits.
Since arriving in December 2019, Mikel Arteta has failed to secure the title for three consecutive seasons, finishing runners-up each time. For Pirès, this season is make or break:
In my opinion, if Arsenal don't win a trophy this year, the board will consider bringing in a new manager. He's been there for five years now, but the title still eludes him. What the fans want most is the Premier League.
Arsenal have backed their manager by signing Viktor Gyökeres, Martín Zubimendi, and Noni Madueke, among others. But for Pirès, a lack of resources is no longer an excuse:
Money has been spent, his requests have been met. If Arsenal don't win the league, I think there will be changes on the bench.
Pirès does acknowledge, however, that the challenge remains formidable against Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea. But, as he told Foot Mercato, the Gunners now have "the cards and the players to go for the title."
