The Arena Garibaldi witnessed a forgettable affair, as Pisa and Lazio seemed content to share the spoils in the final fixture of Serie A round 9.
Maurizio Sarri only made a single change to his starting lineup from the weekend victory over Juventus, bringing in Luca Pellegrini at left-back instead of Manuel Lazzari, while switching Adam Marusic to the right flank.
Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli completed the backline as usual, while Toma Basic, Danilo Cataldi and Matteo Guendouzi combined in the middle. Mattia Zaccagni and Gustav Isaksen flanked Boulaye Dia in attack.
The contest was utterly woeful in the first 30 minutes, with both sides waiting for each other in the hopes of launching a counterattack. Lazio finally mustered a swift attack after the half-hour mark. Zaccagni cut to the middle of the box before setting up Isaksen, but the Dane’s low drive was pummeled away by Adrian Semper.
A few minutes later, Basic received a ball on the edge of the box and launched a long-range effort with his left foot, but he was denied by the post.
While Lazio had the edge in the first half, Pisa were the more dangerous side in the second period. The Lively Matteo Tramoni and Juan Cuadrado began to shake things up in the final third. Nevertheless, the home side had to wait until the 73rd minute to genuinely threaten Ivan Provedel’s goal.
Stefano Moreo directed a corner kick towards goal with a powerful header, but the Biancocelesti’s goalkeeper produced an astonishing reaction save. A few minutes later, Idrissa Touré beat Marusic in the air, but his header couldn’t hit the target.
On the contrary, Lazio failed to produce anything noteworthy after the interval, as Pedro’s introduction as False 9 didn’t pay off. Therefore, Sarri’s men returned to the Italian capital with a point in the bag, but they have now dropped to 11th in the table due to Sassuolo’s win in Cagliari earlier in the day.
