An exit door could be opening for Neal Maupay (29) with the striker struggling for gametime at Olympique de Marseille. He arrived back in France in the 2024 summer transfer window from Everton FC as an emergency signing following the injury to Faris Moumbagna.
In his first six months at Marseille, Maupay became the starting striker for Roberto De Zerbi over the struggling Elye Wahi. However, Maupay’s output was not enough to prevent the club from investing in Amine Gouiri in the winter transfer window, and Maupay was reduced to a bench role.
During the summer, Maupay’s situation was made worse with the return of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the emergence of the academy product Robinio Vaz. Maupay has slipped down the pecking order, with the former Brentford FC man seeing only a minute of football in Ligue 1 and a starting role in the 6-0 win over third-division side Bourg-en-Bresse in the Coupe de France.
An unlikely suitor, Pisa SC, could provide Maupay with more first-team football. Foot Mercato writes that the Serie A side want to try and secure the striker on loan, although the French outlet have previously reported that Maupay is comfortable in his current situation.
